A Christian Doctor Talks About Living Well

Reviewed by Christine Prescott, 2010-03-03

This book has many good ideas for living a healthier life presented in 50 daily segments. From water to stress to how to chew food, there are many good things for me to take from this book. The author incorporates scripture and prayer into his work naturally and seamlessly. The text is easy to read with informative side bars (including multiple choice quizzes about food).

This is a book to be read critically, however. Hexagonal water? Christian yoga? The author is pushing his other books as well as products that he sells. In the introduction, he says this is not "a `don't, can't, shouldn't' book." It is. But there is much to be found in this book that can help anyone live a healthier life. Just pay attention to what's being offered.

I enjoyed this book, plan to use it for a parish nursing reading group at my church. Dr. Colbert's book is an easy read, and brings a new perspective. There is nothing radical in here, just sound advice and cited research.

Dr. Colbert addresses the essential areas of health in a reader friendly manner. He elimenates unnecessary medical jargon that basically prevents a reader from fully comprehending the material. Dr. Colbert includes daily step-by-step methods of diet, sleep, stress reducers and exercise recommendations.
The book includes a wonderful appendix with resources of recommended products, dietary supplements and water suppliers.
Although an individual should always check with their primary care physician before attemping any major dietary changes, this book is a "must" and should be included in everyone's library of health and healing materials. The Seven Pillars of Health covers the basic foundations of health and may be generally applicable.
Qudos, Dr Colbert!

Dr. Colbert and his wife, Mary, recently shared their expertise at a health expo at Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles, California. The book was given great reviews.
